Want Now Wednesday: Two Books from Tor.Com

That’s right, folks! TWO BOOKS FOR THE WANTING TODAY!

Flyaway
Author:
Kathleen Jennings
Publisher: Tor.Com
Release Date: July 28, 2020
Goodreads Synopsis: In a small Western Queensland town, a reserved young woman receives a note from one of her vanished brothers—a note that makes question her memories of their disappearance and her father’s departure.

A beguiling story that proves that gothic delights and uncanny family horror can live—and even thrive—under a burning sun, Flyaway introduces readers to Bettina Scott, whose search for the truth throws her into tales of eerie dogs, vanished schools, cursed monsters, and enchanted bottles.

In these pages Jennings assures you that gothic delights, uncanny family horror, and strange, unsettling prose can live—and even thrive—under a burning sun.

Holly Black describes as “half mystery, half fairy tale, all exquisitely rendered and full of teeth.” Flyaway enchants you with the sly, beautiful darkness of Karen Russell and a world utterly its own.

Just…just look at that cover. LOOK AT IT! There’s hearts and leaves and birds and roots and I CAN’T STOP STARING AT IT!

I may be a sucker for a pretty cover, but there has to be an intriguing synopsis to really hook me. And damn did this synopsis hook me! The idea of a Gothic story “under a burning sun” is like catnip to me. I wants it! I NEEDS IT! And then you go and throw in an awesome description by Holly Black? Yeah. I’m sold.

It looks like it’s still a bit early for pre-order links (I’m a little over excited, okay?), but the book has a page with the publisher and the pre-order links will hopefully be alive soon!

The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water
Author:
Zen Cho
Publisher: Tor.Com
Release Date: June 23, 2020
Synopsis: Zen Cho returns with a found family wuxia fantasy that combines the vibrancy of old school martial arts movies with characters drawn from the margins of history.

A bandit walks into a coffeehouse, and it all goes downhill from there. Guet Imm, a young votary of the Order of the Pure Moon, joins up with an eclectic group of thieves (whether they like it or not) in order to protect a sacred object, and finds herself in a far more complicated situation than she could have ever imagined.

They had me at “A bandit walks into a coffeehouse, and it all goes downhill from there.” Then they had to really come for me with FOUND FAMILY! Found Family is basically my auto buy trigger phrase. Throw in the rest of that synopsis and that cover and I’m done. Dead. Deceased. I’ve been meaning to read Zen Cho’s other works and I guess now is the time since I have to wait until June of 2020 for this one.

Again, I’m a little too early for pre-order links, but check out the publisher’s page for this novella for more info!
