Friday Favorites: Books from Childhood

Happy Friday, y’all! You ready to take a walk down memory lane?

Okay, first things first, I’ve got a new thing I’m testing for Friday Favorites. Down at the bottom of the post is a link to add your posts to a link list! I’ve seen this tool used on other blogs so I’m hoping it’ll work here. Try as I might, I’m not great at keeping up with editing my posts and adding the links myself. I’m hoping this will make it easier for people to find other’s Friday Favorites posts!

So, on to the good stuff: childhood books! I am lucky enough to still have many of my childhood books and many are in pretty good kip. Not that I’ll ever have a child to read them to, but I like to keep them around for nostalgia sake. Thinking about all the books on my list, I’m not surprised that I grew up to be such a lover of food.

The Hungry Thing by Jan Slepian, Ann Seidler, Richard E. Martin (Illustrator) – There is a thing and they are very hungry. I related back then, I relate now.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff (Goodreads Author), Felicia Bond (Illustrator) – Look, just don’t give a mouse a cookie if you want to have a quiet evening. That little punk is gonna want a lot of other things.

Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl – I think this book is one of my OG reread addictions. I read that book SO MANY times. There is nothing I love more than a sneaky fox.

Sam the Cat Detective by Linda Stewart – Y’ALL! It’s a noir mystery starting CATS! We need more books like this, darnit!

Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George, John Schoenherr (Illustrations) – I remember very little about this one, but it was still one of the first books I thought about when planning this post.

Madline by Ludwig Bemelmans – This book gave me an irrational fear of appendicitis, but I still love it!

The Fear Street book by R.L. Stine – Do I consider these early 90s horror books my childhood books? Yep, and I still have zero idea why my mom let me read these when I was so young. Like, damn, these books were all kinds of messed up.

Alright, below is the link to add your post to the link list! Just ignore the slightly ominous “You are next…” I haven’t figured out if there is a way to change that text lol! I hope you try and it and hopefully it works! I’ve always wanted to be able to promote other people’s Friday Favorites posts but sometimes I just don’t have the time or energy. Y’all always have such amazing posts and I want more people to be able to appreciate them!

Hi there! I'm Kibby, a 30ish year old book devourer, living in Northern California! When not reading I am writing about demon hunters, rewatching Great British Bake Off and Doctor Who too much, and lamenting over the lack of appreciation for Rogue One. I am also a #bookstagrammer under the IG handle of somethingofthebook.

  1. Omg that Fantastic Mr Fox cover is giving me major throwback vibes 🤣And of course, Madeline is a classic! I also totally remember reading Julie of the Wolves but I can’t remember much of it now 🙈I know I remember liking it though! Lol

  2. Why am I not surprised by the RL Stine? Ah these are fun classics. I vaguely remember The Hungry Thing, and from what I do remember I really need to purchase that one. I think I loved the illustrations, to be honest.
