Friday Favorites: Hyped Books

Oh hello, Friday Favorites! It’s me, your terrible host who keeps skipping weeks. BUT NOT THIS WEEK! For I am maybe finally out of my blog slump? LET’S GET HYPED!

Hyped books. A lot can be said about hype, and it will always be something I have a love/hate relationship with. I love when people get excited about things they love, but sometimes the hype can either ruin a book for another reader (*cough*Heartless by Marissa Meyer*cough*) or cause strife in the community. Y’all, I’m a Hufflepuff to the core (with a dash of Slytherin) and I LOATHE strife. LOATHE IT! All that being said, there are quite a few hyped books/series that I love.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas – I think if you look up hyped authors, SJM will be at the top. But I found this series before booksta and was able to enjoy the first few books without the hype train running me over. They are far from perfect books, but damn if I don’t love this series to the end of time. (Side note: Crown of Midnight is the best in the series, and I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL!)

Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo – AKA the books that made me actually appreciate the Grishaverse. Although it’s technically right order, I will always say that people should read Six of Crows before the Grishaverse trilogy. Because Six of Crows actually shows what an amazing writer Bardugo can be.

The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare – Technically, I could say the whole collection of Shadowhunter books for this, but The Infernal Devices are the only books in the Shadowhunter universe that I truly LOVE. It’s one of the few times that I’m all for a love triangle. And this trilogy makes me ugly sob every time I read it and that’s what I love in books.

The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff – I love these books so much they get their own section. I ignore Illuminae for so long because it was SO ORANGE and I just could not deal with that. And then I gave into the hype and read it. AND LOVE IT! Like, y’all, the hype is so real with this series. And I 9000% recommend the audiobooks of this series. They are probably my favorite audiobooks of all time.

Harry Potter by JK Rowling – Do I even need to explain this one?

Everything by VE/Victoria Schwab – Well, I say everything, but I actually didn’t like Vengeful very much, but that’s not the point. The point is every time Schwab releases a book or talks about a book she is planning to write, a majority of the book community proceeds to lose their damn minds, me included.

Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown – Note, that I specify the trilogy…I don’t speak of the Saga books anymore (if you want to know why, check out my spoiler filled review of Dark Age). The trilogy though, damn do I love it so much. One of my all-time favorite sequels is Golden Son, because holy heck did that book break me.

The Folk of Air series by Holly Black – Okay, I gotta do the hipster thing with this one: I loved Holly Black before she was cool. I was reading her books over a decade ago, so when I saw she was coming out with a new Fae series I lost my mind just a little bit…along with a vast majority of the book community. There can be a lot said for the toxicity of the main pairing in the series, but I just love my trash children so much and I can’t look away from all the messed-up stuff they do to each other. I am DYING for Queen of Nothing to be released NEXT WEEK OMG!
