A clear, plain-English guide to this complex scientific theory String theory is the hottest topic in physics right now, with books on the subject (pro and con) flying out of the stores. String Theory For Dummies offers an accessible introduction to this highly mathematical "theory of everything," which posits ten or more dimensions in an attempt to explain the basic nature of matter and energy. Written for both students and people interested in science, this guide explains concepts, discusses the string theory's hypotheses and predictions, and presents the math in an approachable manner. It features in-depth examples and an easy-to-understand style so that readers can understand this controversial, cutting-edge theory.

The complementary nature of physically-based and data-driven models in their demand for physical insight and historical data, leads to the notion that the predictions of a physically-based model can be improved and the associated uncertainty can be systematically reduced through the conjunctive use of a data-driven model of the residuals. An accessible introduction to modern physics that focuses on wormholes and discusses among other topics their structure, stability, dynamics, operation as time machines, utility as portals to parallel universes, and their implications for the distant future of humanity. Read the wormhole FAQ and the bullet point "principles" scattered throughout to quickly absorb the basics of wormhole physics. Go back and read the interstitial material for greater depth. Written by a physicist with years of experience in gently introducing physics to the mathematically challenged, it also covers the history of wormhole physics and delineates the unsolved problems at the forefront of research.

There are various arguments for the metaphysical impossibility of time travel. Is it impossible because objects could then be in two places at once? Or is it impossible because some objects could bring about their own existence? In this book, Nikk Effingham contends that no such argument is sound and that time travel is metaphysically possible. His main focus is on the Grandfather Paradox: the position that time travel is impossible because someone could not go back in time and kill their own grandfather before he met their grandmother. In such a case, Effingham argues that the time traveller would have the ability to do the impossible (so they could kill their grandfather) even though those impossibilities will never come about (so they won't kill their grandfather). He then explores the ramifications of this view, discussing issues in probability and decision theory. The book ends by laying out the dangers of time travel and why, even though no time machines currently exist, we should pay extra special care ensuring that nothing, no matter how small or microscopic, ever travels in time.

The third edition of Organizational Behaviour: Text and Cases offers a concise yet comprehensive coverage of the theories that determine behaviour in organizations. The relationship between effective organizational behaviour and the effective functioning of an organization is established through a clear and lucid style of presentation. With the help of necessary concepts, tools and techniques necessary for understanding behaviour in organizations, this book attempts to unfold human behaviour at four levels; starting from the individual processes and moving on to the interpersonal, organizational, and change processes. It encourages active learning through exercises, field projects and case studies, and develops competencies that are essential for becoming successful managers and effective employees in organizations. The three new chapters—Career, Planning and Management; Performance and Reward Management; and Gender Issues in Management—help readers understand organizational behaviour in the current Indian business scenario better. KEY FEATURES • Classroom-tested case studies pertaining to actual incidents from the workplace • Several examples from BPCL, HCL Technologies, Wipro, Infosys and SAP highlighting the best practices in the industry • Caselets focusing on behavioural issues in organizations • Field projects involving students in data collection and analysis • Marginalia summarizing crucial points and serving as quick references • A companion website featuring multiple-choice questions, learning objectives, an instructor’s manual, and PowerPoint lecture slides enabling effective presentation of concepts

Any theory of physical reality is like a map; not just a map, yet a map of our human perception capability, successfully navigating the idea of space through time, of time through space, and of course understanding how all of that works. It is like travelling around the world; having new experiences, gaining a greater understanding of how the world works, how the world lives, and how it breathes. To achieve that as a pure theory of physics while exploring space and time, from the basis of human perception, the travelling experience there is identifying a set of successful patterns of data that have been proven experimentally through real means, as patterns of data that come together to form a fundamental property of definition as a logos of space and time. The eBook presented here accounts for such a process, detailing three physics papers on the subject of time, space, and perception, and how perception holds the key in unlocking the mystery of time and space. This eBook contains the most recent three papers of a series of 21 which represents a gateway to all the other papers for your perusal. One key logos regarding our perception with space and time is that to understand nature is to first trust it, to trust what is presented to our perception as real, and thus more fundamentally, to know our perception, to accept those fundamentals. Yet how is “trust” a part of science, and should it be? In some way nature, like our body, is like a musical instrument; we can play anything with it yet knowing how it works is key to doing the most with it. And surely to do the most with reality using our perception, our greater ability to perceive and think is certainly required for our advancement in the physical arts and sciences. This eBook and associated papers is about knowing how nature works by accepting how our perception works and how perception can be used to understand the scientific here and now components of time and space. The eBook presented here is such a focus, and the hope is that it is an insightful and rewarding process of study. I hope you enjoy it and above all find it useful and rewarding.

Theories within tourism can be difficult, even confusing areas to understand. Developed from the successful Portuguese textbook Teoria do Turismo, Tourism Theory provides clear and thorough coverage of all aspects of tourism theory for students and researchers of tourism. Consisting of five sections and over fifty entries, this book covers nine of the most important models in tourism study. The first three sections examine general concepts in tourism; disciplines and topics; and the tourist, which includes areas such as demand, gaze, psychology and typologies. A fourth section covers intermediation, distribution and travel, reviewing aspects such as travel agencies, tourist flows and multi-destination travel patterns. The final section encapsulates the tourism destination itself, covering organizations, the destination image, supply, seasonality and more. Encyclopedic cross-referencing between entries makes navigation easy, while in-depth analysis, exercises and further reading suggestions for each of the selected areas provide the context and detail needed for understanding. Entries can be used individually as a reference, or as part of the whole for a complete introduction to tourism theory.
